Wednesday, September 2nd - Intro to Argentine Tango in Kennewick, WA
Next Wednesday, September 2nd, I will be teaching a beginner's class in Argentine Tango. This is the first time I've had the privilege to teach right here in my hometown!
Argentine Tango can uniquely be described as a conversation in which both partners strive to listen to and understand one another. It is delightfully unscripted; without choreography or standardized patterns. Every element of every step including timing, speed and direction is communicated through the leader's invitation and the follower's choice to accept, requiring each partner to pay full attention to the subtle signals and movements of the other. The follower must suspend anticipation and expectations, while the leader must listen and wait for his follower's response, and often adjust his movements to accommodate hers.
This introductory class will focus on:
-The basic elements that make up Argentine Tango
-Maintaining proper connection and resistance between partners
-Effectively communicating intention and energy through the embrace
-Smoothly executing and improvising simple steps and combinations
Please visit www.salsaconrumba.com to pre-register.

Between tango classes and late-night dancing, we managed to explore some of Chicago's sights, including an obligatory stop by the famous Giant Bean! Later this evening: fireworks at the pier!

Farewell Sandunga...
Hello Tangueros,
I regret to inform you that as of today, just one month shy of its third anniversary, Milonga Sandunga is no more. The studio owner has decided to schedule another event in its place. I apologize for the late notice, but I was only just informed of the decision this evening.
However, this piece of news does not come without a bright side. I am currently in the process of arranging an absolutely FABULOUS new venue for the "third Friday" milonga. I will announce the details once the final arrangements have been made.
Stay tuned for more information, and keep on dancing!
See you soon,
Melissa
